Freedom from slavery in our region

The Australian International Counter Slavery Alliance exists to constrain the impact of slavery in our region by facilitating partnerships between civil society, government, business and community leaders with lived experience. Thirdculture was engaged to develop a landing page in readiness for the Alliance’s official launch.

Slavery is too big to ignore

We don’t think much about slavery in 2026. At least I didn’t. That was until I started speaking to the CEO of the Global Counter-Trafficking Group and the Australian International Counter Slavery Alliance, Jacob Sarkodee. Jacob spoke to me about slavery in our region, including the massive scam centres which are the destination of countless people who are tricked and trafficked into and that cost Australian’s millions of dollars each year. Having worked in and around international development agencies for nearly 20 years, I was shocked not just at the scale of the problem so much as I wasn’t even aware just how prevalent slavery is in 2026. And the thing about slavery is the more you learn, the more you want to do whatever you can to help.

The Counter Slavery Alliance is in the early stages of onboarding member organisations, attracting partners, and securing funding. The organisation understands that having a professional online presence will help it do so successfully and engaged us to develop a landing page.

Approach

When we first discussed the needs of the landing page, we knew that we wanted to build something that could grow alongside the Alliance. This means designing a landing page will work as a homepage that’s easy to add to.

We build the site in WordPress and set up page elements as building blocks that can be easily used to create new pages, or update the homepage as needed. This is made easy using Advanced Custom Fields which allows anyone in the Alliance to edit content and pages as needed.

The final steps were setting up tracking and analytics, as well as providing training on how to use the content management system.

Results

The landing page launched in June 2026. Since launching, we’re pleased to report the Alliance has successfully progressed conversations with potential new members and partners.

We’re looking forward to continuing to support the Alliance in its fight against modern day slavery in our region.
